People sometimes ask why so many of our classes are slow. The honest answer is that slowness is where most of the good things in yoga happen.
When we move slowly we can feel what we are doing. We notice the small adjustments that make a posture comfortable, the moment the breath gets short, the difference between effort and strain. That attention is the practice.
Slow is not the same as easy
Holding a posture for five breaths asks a lot of the body and even more of the mind. Slow classes build real strength and real patience, and the second one tends to last longer.
We practise slowly so that the rest of the week can be a little softer.
